About the Book

Psyker Marine: Book 4 opens up the second half of the series. The fronts widen. So does the protagonist’s skill tree, which is starting to ask questions about itself.

Same tactical grammar, more strategic frame. The combat-LitRPG reader who’s been trained up by the first three books gets paid back here: every fight teaches something specific about the build, and the build is becoming unmistakably Thorne’s rather than the Aetherion’s.

The Story

Thorne should be dead. Instead he is leading a crew of survivors, some human and some rather less so, into an intergalactic war with a stolen warship, a handful of seriously levelled fighters and the System muttering in his head. The Cylis Crusade is hiring mercenaries and Stormfall answers the call. The job is to fight, level, and survive long enough to get back to Earth with the power to stop the next invasion. In the way: bioengineered killing machines, warlords who would sell them at the first opportunity, and a contract written to bleed them dry.

This is the book where the series leaves the Sol system and the story gets wider rather than just louder. Thorne takes a mercenary posting to power up, which changes the shape of the fights: fewer defensive stands, more contracts, more politics, and a ragtag crew forced together who do not all like each other.
