About the Book

Psyker Marine: Book 3 sits in the centre of the series’ arc. The Gehenna are no longer a mystery; the Aetherion are no longer benevolent allies. The protagonist has more power and fewer options, which is roughly the definition of a middle-trilogy book that earns its place.

Combat is more tactical, the System layer is deeper, and the squad-as-found-family thread starts paying its dues. If Book 1 was the recruitment and Book 2 was the deployment, this one is the part of the war where everyone realises what they signed up for.

The Story

Mars is gone. When the dust settles, humanity’s strongest position is rubble, the Gehenna have taken Rachel, taken Stormfall, taken everyone Thorne cares about, and they have made the one mistake that matters: they left him alive. Getting his friends back means fighting through alien death ships, outmanoeuvring the traitor who sold the colony out, and in all likelihood setting something important on fire. That last part is his specialty.

The levelling is generous in this one, Thorne’s build takes a real jump, and the battles are the most brutal in the series so far, though the running gags survive the losses, which I think is rather the point of them.

What Readers Say

“Thorne levels up considerably during this and the battle scenes are BRUTAL. Good heart to it, too.” (PJM, Amazon UK) “Even better than the first two. High stakes, cool action, excellent dialogue and a plot that’s always on the go.” (Amazon UK reviewer)
