The person responsible for your data here (the “controller”, if you want the legal word for it) is me, Malory, writing as a sole trader under the business name Wild Writing, based in the United Kingdom. The way to reach me about any of it is malory@maloryauthor.com.
This is a one-person author website, so the short version is that if you give me your email address I'll send you stories and news about books, and I won't give your address to anybody else.
Usually just an email address, and only if you type it into a signup form yourself. Some free-book pages also ask for a first name so the emails can say hello properly, though that's optional. I don't ask for your age, your location or anything else, and if you never sign up then I don't collect anything that identifies you.
Signing up on this site is confirmed opt-in, which means you get one email asking you to confirm your address and nothing else is sent unless you click the link in it. After that I send you a copy of Crude, the free story, and then first chapters of new books, the odd Kindle deal and a recommendation every so often, which usually works out at one email every few weeks. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom and it works straight away, no questions asked.
My mailing list is run by MailerLite, who store the list and send the emails for me. They're a processor acting on my behalf and they have their own privacy policy.
If you picked up a free book from me through BookFunnel, then BookFunnel took your email address to deliver the book and passed it on to me, as the download page said it would. BookFunnel keeps its own record of the books you've downloaded and has its own privacy policy too.
Nobody else gets the list. I don't sell it, rent it, swap it or share it with other authors.
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which keeps ordinary server logs (things like your IP address and browser) for security. The fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for them. I count visits with Plausible, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't follow you around other sites and doesn't collect anything that identifies you, so all I see is roughly how many people visited and which pages they looked at.
I don't set advertising or tracking cookies. MailerLite's signup form may set a cookie to remember that you've already subscribed so it stops asking you.
Until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete you, or until I clean the list of addresses that haven't opened anything in a couple of years, whichever comes first.
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it altogether. Email malory@maloryauthor.com and I'll do it. If you're in the UK or the EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection regulator, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office.
The list is meant for adults. If you're under 13, please don't sign up yourself, and ask a parent or carer instead.
Anything at all, malory@maloryauthor.com.
